Blacklist International’s Epic MPL-PH S7 Comeback
MPL–PH Season 7 delivered a grand final for the ages as Blacklist International clawed back from the brink to defeat Execration 4–3 and claim their first championship. The victory also secured Blacklist the first Philippine slot at MSC 2021, while Execration earned the second seed after their own remarkable lower-bracket run.
Lower Bracket Run
Execration entered the grand final on a hot streak, having not lost a series since Week 6 of the regular season. In the lower bracket, they first reverse swept reigning world champions Bren Esports, then dismantled Aura PH to book their first ever MPL grand final appearance. The win streak set the stage for a best-of-seven clash against the top-seeded Blacklist International.
Grand Final Thriller
XctN came out firing, racing to a 2–0 lead behind Kelra’s deadly Alice and Kielvj’s punishing Roger. Blacklist steadied themselves to take Game 3, but Execration answered back, moving within one game of the title at 3–2. With their backs against the wall, Blacklist unleashed Eson’s game-changing Franco to force a winner-take-all Game 7. In the decider, Blacklist turned to their trusted Aldous pick—still undefeated in the playoffs—and dominated from start to finish, capping the comeback with a 4–3 series win.
The series was packed with storylines: the “King vs Queen” rivalry between Kielvj and OhMyV33nus, Blacklist’s regular-season dominance colliding with Execration’s Cinderella run, and individual heroics from Kelra, Kielvj, and Eson. In the end, Blacklist’s composure under pressure earned them the crown.
Both teams will reconvene at MSC 2021 in just over a week, with Blacklist carrying the top Philippine seed and Execration aiming to continue their hot form on the regional stage.
